What to Eat on Mounjaro® When You're Nauseous (Dietitian List)
By Jorrie Smith, RD · Updated 2026-10-31 ·
Nausea is one of the most common side effects of tirzepatide (Mounjaro®, Zepbound®), especially after a dose increase. These foods and habits often help, and most of them still give you protein.
Gentle foods to try
- Cold or room-temperature protein: Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, egg salad, chilled shrimp
- Ultrafiltered milk, or a small, slowly sipped protein shake
- Bone broth (protein varies by brand; check the label)
- Plain crackers, toast, rice, banana, applesauce
- Ginger tea or peppermint tea
Eating tips
- Eat small amounts, slowly. Stop at the first sign of fullness.
- Skip greasy, fried and very rich foods on dose days.
- Sip fluids between meals.
- Stay upright for about 30 minutes after eating.
When to call your prescriber
Call if you can't keep fluids down, have severe or ongoing belly pain, or signs of dehydration (dizziness, very dark urine). These aren't normal side effects to wait out.
Want every day planned for you? The 14-day GLP-1 Plate plan does the math: 100 to 130 g protein and 25 to 35 g fiber a day (estimates).
